Please help to fund a Defibrillator
Monday, 14 November 2016
We are a rural community where the time it might take for the emergency services to reach us may be too long. This is especially the case for sudden cardiac arrest where evidence suggests the chance of survival reduces with each passing minute.
The rural response times for a Category Red 1 call are 10 minutes and the chance of surviving are 10% at this point. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) combined with early defibrillation increases the chances of survival significantly.
We could help each other if we had an automated external defibrillator closer to hand that could be used by local people whilst waiting for the emergency services to arrive. Training would be provided free of charge.
The Parish Council Is giving its support to an initiative by one parishioner, Steve Pickup, to raise the £2,300 required to purchase a defibrillator for the Parish. The Parish Council has agreed in principle to fund the on-going maintenance costs if enough money is donated by you to purchase the unit.
Check out this link to the Crowd Funding site for more details and how to donate. https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/steve-pickup
We hope you will be able to donate something to the initiative. Every penny counts!
