Good news about the Community Library in Bishop’s Lydeard. It is now open to customers for more hours. The new schedule is:

Monday 10 – 4

Wednesday 10 – 4

Friday 10 – 4

Every Saturday 10 – 1

The library is run jointly by the County Council and the local Parish Council. It has one paid member of staff (Rebecca) and a jolly band of volunteers, who welcome all customers, long-standing or new, old or young.

The building is found beside the Co-op in the middle of the village. It has a good supply of fiction books for all ages, including audio books and large print books, as well as non-fiction and local interest books. There are toys, colouring and Lego to keep the youngsters amused and Rebecca provides other special activities. Each month, there is a picture trail around the library, for youngsters to find, with a special sticker and a chocolate egg as a reward. February it was birds, March is literary characters.

The library also has a public computer, printing/photocopying facilities, and blood pressure monitors to loan.

Books can be returned to the village library from any Somerset library; you can have up to 20 books on loan; and you can request books from other libraries to be delivered to Bishops Lydeard.

So, what are you waiting for? Come on over, this is your local library, and it provides a warm, welcoming environment for all.
